2014 Gospel Music Grammy Nominations are released, celebrate with your favorite artists

Each year, gospel artists and listeners have the opportunity to see their favorite artists celebrated on the biggest awards stage, the Grammy Awards. This year was a year of change in the music industry favoring the long held buying and listening trends of gospel listeners.

This change, which now brings consideration to trends such as youtube views and singles downloads aim to highlight a long forgotten industry that has for years been uninvited to professional music’s biggest party. When was the last time you saw gospel music awarded during the main show? Expect to see that trend change as well in the coming years. Gospel/Christian music is another genre left to the early afternoon Pre-Awards Show.

Here is the list of this year’s gospel categories and nominees. Who do you think will win? I’ve included my pick with each category. Who’s your pick?? Share it with SMG today!

  1. who are all of these folks…never heard of any of them except Natalie Grant and Steven Curtis Chapman. Why can’t southern gospel groups get a fair chance at a grammy anymore. Why has David Phelps not won a grammy? He is the best voice in gospel music today. What a shame that truly great voices are not considered…..real shame.

  2. Thanks for your reply. Those of us in the gospel/christian music category ask that question each year. Sadly, the parameters for the Grammy Awards (NARAS) award using rather scientific information. Primarily, sales drives the nominations and award. David Phelps and SCC are artists primarily recognized on the Christian/Contemporary Christian Charts.

Hopefully, NARAS alters their parameters to better reflect the audience of such artists. After last night’s show, it’s clear that the gospel/christian awards may remain in the Pre-Show for years to come as sad as that may be!
